Modern Illness

You have a lot of body parts and a lot of tendons to support those body parts and your joints. Think about all of the bones that you have that require muscles to move them and then think of the tendons that aid in that movement. Now, you are getting an idea of just how many tendons in your body and how many places you might discover tendons to be in your body. You can develop tendonitis in all of these places.

There are many types of tendonitis including ankle Achilles, Adductor, Bicep, Calcific, dequervains, elbow, extensor, finger, foot, forearm, hamstring, hand, hip, knee, patellar, peroneal, posterior tibial, qualdriceps, rotator cuff, shoulder, supraspinatus, triceps and tendonitis of the wrist.

Those who have flat feet or are very active are prone to ankle tendonitis. Ankle tendonitis affects the posterior tibialis tendon. This tendon runs underneath the "bony knob" which is seen in your ankle.

The adductor tendons are those in the adductor muscles, which includes the longus, brevis, pectineus, gracilis, and the magnus. They help the muscles to stretch from the pelvis to the thigh and also from the pelvis to the knee. Adductor tendonitis occurs when there is side-to-side movement or repeated high jumps. This movement happens with professional linebackers and tennis players.

Athletes who use overhead movements such as those participating in racket sports are susceptible to bicep tendonitis. It occurs in the top tendon, which is the one connecting to the shoulder. The bicep is located in the front of the upper arm.

Calcific tendonitis occurs when there is a build up of calcium on the tendons of the rotator cuffs. The build up initiates a chemical reaction that causes irritation and can lead to pain. This type of tendonitis usually goes away on its own in a couple of weeks if the area is rested.

You use your wrist in doing a lot of everyday tasks, which can lead to overuse. There is also a health condition where the tendons are located near the wrist's thumb side and can be easily irritated, swollen and painful. This pain can happen when the individual forms a fist or holds objects. This irritation, swelling and pain in the wrist are known as dequevains tendonitis.

Those who play tennis or who work on a production line are prone to elbow tendonitis. Irritation and inflammation occurs in the elbow area when someone has elbow tendonitis.

Extensor Tendonitis is when the muscles at the front of the ankle, along the top of the foot and attached to the big toe become inflamed. The muscles associated with extensor tendonitis are used to pull your foot upwards when walking and they work with the Achilles tendon and calf muscles when your foot is pulled backwards while walking.
Fingers actually have two tendons that run alongside the palm side of your fingers. If you have finger tendonitis you have pain when you bend your finger.

Working men and women who walk a lot or athletes can experience foot tendonitis. The posterior tibial tendon is the tendon affected when you have foot tendonitis.

Forearm tendonitis occurs with overuse of the forearm which happens with overuse or a strain or tear to the tendon in the forearm.

Hamstring tendonitis is an inflammation or swelling and irritation of the hamstring tendon, which is caused by overuse, injury or stress.

You use your hands to perform many tasks during the day and besides the feet your hands are the most abused part of your body and easily prone to tendonitis due to overuse.

People who perform repetitive movements are at high risk for hip tendonitis. Those who try new workouts or become stressed or overworked can get hip tendonitis.

Knee tendonitis is the most common of knee injuries. The knee has several tendons that are large and can become inflamed especially when running or twisting is involved in the activities the individual is doing.

Patellar tendonitis is a condition or injury of the kneecap. This occurs when the individual does a lot of jumping, or bike pedaling, or even when kicking a ball. You can get patellar tendonitis form overuse in workouts.

Peronial Tendonitis occurs to the peronial tendon, which is located on the ankle on the side of the little toe. Tennis players and other racket sport players are prone to this type of tendonitis.

Posterior Tibial Tendonitis is an inflamed tibial tendon, which is located in the back of your lower leg. Pain will occur when you rise up on the ball of your foot. If untreated you can lose your foot's arch.

Quadriceps Tendonitis is a common condition with athletes. Pain is felt in the knee due to friction as the tendon moves over the kneecap.

Rotator Cuff tendonitis can occur from birth when a "hooked" acromion, or when there is weakness around the rotator cuff and also when there is excess stress or repetitive action as in when an athlete is training too hard or it can be from a shoulder injury.

A Supraspinatus tendonitis is also sometimes called a rotator cuff tendonitis and occurs in the muscles of the upper arm and shoulder joint. It can occur from overuse, an injury or simply part of the aging process as the tendon loses elasticity and the ability to stretch. It can also occur as a result of poor core strength, genetic abnormalities and too strenuous training demands.

Triceps Tendonitis is a painful condition when extending or straightening your arm. The pain will be at the back of your upper arm and near your elbow.

Wrist tendonitis is a very common wrist condition because the wrist flexes in many sports activities such as racket sports, dance and in many work-related tasks such as typing and factory work.
