Prostate Problems Unveiled

November 7th, 2008

Prostate conditions are a huge problem that has an impact of a colossal scale. You may not be aware, but thousands upon thousand of men across the globe become impotent and die every year from prostate problems.

What is it that causes these deaths?

Well most of these are caused by prostate cancer, but the main reason these deaths occur is because the problems silently work away at the human hosts body for long periods before there are any signs to show there is a problem.

When symptoms do finally show, they can be attributed to a vast variety of things, which makes pinpointing the problem even harder, causing tests and examinations to be run to find out exactly what is causing the problem.

What are these conditions you talk of?

There are three main conditions that cause a lot of problems; below you can see all three listed.

Prostatitis - This is a condition that affects men of all ages; it is a condition that is caused by the build up of inflammation in the cells of the prostate. When the cells become inflamed, they swell causing the prostate to grow in size, when the prostate has swollen to quite a large size it starts to restrict the flow of urine through the urethra that it is wrapped around.

It is only at this point that symptoms start to show with pain and discomfort being felt during urination, if urination is possible at all.

To combat prostatitis the doctor will probably prescribe medication in an oral tablet form that needs to be taken regularly for a full course.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia - This affects men of a golden age (older men), an is the growth of the prostate, this growth has the same affects as prostatitis but is more difficult to combat as it is not due to inflammation.

This can be managed by medication or massaging the prostate, which means a finger in the anus gently rubbing the rectal wall where the prostate is. In the worst case scenario surgery may be needed and part of the prostate can be cut away to free the space in the area and alleviate the symptoms.

Prostate cancer - A giant killer that takes many lives from across the globe year in, and year out, prostate cancer is caused by the growth of cancerous cells that multiply slowly, but freely, in the prostate. If this is not found early enough then complications can occur because the cancer can spread elsewhere making it hard to contain and maintain.

The treatments available for prostate cancer vary wildly from chemotherapy and radiation therapy (radiated rods put in the prostate) to total removal of the prostate altogether.

The management and treatments available have increased in success dramatically over such a short period of time, this means that men have the best possible chances of survival if they can read the early warning signs their body throws at them and seek medical advice.

Look after your body and it will look after you.
